Clinical Trials and Other Research
The Brisbane Clinic for Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukaemia is actively involved in researching new treatments for these conditions.
Summary of Clinical Trial Interests and Previous Research
- Lymphoma clinical trials.
- Myeloma clinical trials
- Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group Trials
- Major pharmaceutical company trials of new agents not otherwise available to patients
Current Trials
1. Clinical trials into new oral agents (tablets) with minimal toxicity for the treatment of lymphoma and leukaemia either as an alternative to standard therapy or if standard therapies have not worked
2. In April 2019 we begin two new trials of tablets for patients with a range of types of B cell lymphoma and T cell lymphoma that has failed other treatment. Follicular lymphoma, Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma, Mantle Cell Lymphoma and other lymphoma types are being evaluated.
3. Myeloma research in collaboration with QUT hoping, through laboratory studies, to gain better understanding about the causes, biology and potential ways of treating myeloma
4. Research in collaboration with UQ on how to optimally maintain health, fitness, bone strength and quality of life through activity and personalised exercise and strengthening programs.
Research Collaborations
University Collaborations
- We are actively collaborating with the University of Queensland and the Queensland University of Technology in various studies in myeloma and strategies to assist health and fitness in patients with cancer and leukaemia
Pharmaceutical company trials
- A vital part of the research effort into new treatments for lymphoma, myeloma and leukaemia is undertaken by large pharmaceutical companies. We have been selected by leading, multinational pharmaceutical companies to assist in trialing new drugs that appear to have benefits in lymphoma, myeloma and leukaemia. These trials are generally large trials being conducted in leading cancer hospitals in America and Europe, as well as in Australia. These trials give early access to new drugs that would otherwise not be available for many years. Many of our current patients have been on tor are still on trials for myeloma, chronic lymphocytic leukaemia and a range of types of lymphoma.
Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group
- The Brisbane Clinic for Lymphoma, Myeloma and Leukamia is able to undertake national trials of lymphoma, myeloma and leukaemia therapy as Greenslopes Hospital is accredited with the ALLG for this purpose . The Australasian Leukaemia and Lymphoma Group is Australia's leading not-for-profit academic organisation for the development and management of clinical trials. Some of the trials are designed in Australia by Australia's leading experts in the field. Other trials are conducted in collaboration with other major academic organisations around the world, particularly from Europe.
